The Terrifying Price of Becoming a Type III Civilization

Right now, humanity consumes roughly 18-terawatts of total power continuously. But computational networks are expanding so fast that they are threatening to overwhelm local electrical grids. AI is already wreaking havoc on global power systems. And it’s not just electricity, either. Cooling these giant clusters of supercomputers requires billions of gallons of freshwater every year, along with vast amounts of copper, silicon, and rare Earth elements mined straight from the ground. We are running headfirst into a physical wall.
This is where many emerging alien civilizations may hit what is known as the ‘Great Filter’. They dream of expanding into the cosmos, but they burn out their home planet's resources before they can even leave their homeworld. If humanity ever wants to take the first real step toward galactic dominance, we cannot just build bigger power plants. We have to completely change how we feed the machine. If we do not change course, we risk catapulting ourselves back to the stone age.
